Cervical cancer is a disease that damages the cervix inside the women system of reproduction. The cervix is the bottom part of the womb (uterus) that joins the top of the vaginal canal to the womb. It is approximately 2 inches in size. During the beginning stages of cervical cancer, generally there will be no manifestations. The signs of the disease start to show up when the cancer progresses, entering more deeply inside the cervix along with the encircling tissue. Due to the fact that the cervix, the affected area, is inside the body, cervical cancer cannot be observed by the patient herself as with other types of cancer like skin cancer.
